La Cité de Carcassonne
This deservedly famous World Heritage Site is a twenty-five minute drive from Limoux.

Two fascinating morning markets lie within a thirty minute drive of Les Lauriers: the Monday market In Medieval Mirepoix and, closer to Limoux, the Sunday market with a distinctly hippy vibe in Espéraza.

Close to La Cité, at Lac de La Cavayere, you will find Beaches, Treetop Adventures, Beach Volleyball, Boules and a lovely walk around the lake through the pine forest.

To the north, The great Minervois wine region and the beautiful village of Minerve.

Set off south. In twelve-minutes pull off the main road, over a narrow bridge and into small but historically impressive Alet-les-Bains

Then, head uphill to the river village of Rennes-les-Bains: a lovely walk and Hot Baths.

Or take the next road to Rennes-le-Chateau: a village of rumour (Templar Treasures) and Mystery (How could the priest in a small village afford to build that castle and gardens?)

Carry on south through limestone gorges, through the Fenouillèdes, past the Cathar castles of Peyrepertuse and Queribus to Perpignan, and the salt water étangs on the Mediterranean coast… and on to Catalonia, Spain and the Costa Brava a few minutes later..
Or...
Journey east from Limoux after breakfast and have a late lunch in ‘Roman Gaul’: ancient aqueducts, arenas, Roman temples… etc, etc.
Or ...
Journey west into the Pyrenées, and the spectacular Plateau de Sault to Andorra or stay on the northern edge of the mountains and be in magnificent Bordeaux with some of the world’s best wineries within four hours
So much to see and do. After 21 years of ownership, we still find new rivers to Kayak, beautiful villages we’ve yet to see, hiking and rambling trails we said we must do, and need to do soon…

Enough said.
